Twin regions of Belarus and China develop roadmap to bolster ties

MINSK (BelTA) – The twin regions of Belarus and China have developed a roadmap to deepen trade and economic cooperation, BelTA learned from the press service of the Economy Ministry of Belarus.

On 19 August Beijing played host to a meeting of the working group on interregional trade and economic cooperation within the framework of the intergovernmental Belarusian-Chinese commission on trade and economic cooperation. "The twin regions of Belarus and China designed the joint roadmap to deepen trade and economic cooperation, and it was the important result of the first meeting of the group," the press service explained.

The roadmap describes the priority concrete measures to implement the agreements, priority cooperation projects and also promising areas of work. The document will be submitted to the commission on trade and economic cooperation of the Belarusian-Chinese intergovernmental committee on cooperation which will gather for a meeting on 20 August.

In addition, participants of the meeting discussed the important issues of interregional trade and economic cooperation between the two countries, including the status of implementation of the agreements reached during the Belarusian-Chinese regional business forum in Minsk, current projects and new areas of joint work. The parties agreed that "a business mission" under the auspices of the Ministry of Commerce of China, with the participation of regions of China, will visit Belarus annually to boost interregional cooperation in trade, investment, and finance.

The working group on interregional trade and economic cooperation is headed by Belarus' Deputy Economy Minister Alexander Yaroshenko and Director of the Department of Eurasian Affairs of the Ministry of Commerce Ling Ji. The meeting was attended by senior representatives of the six oblast executive committees, Minsk City Hall and the officials of the governments of the provinces of Heilongjiang, Jiangsu, Zhejiang, Sichuan, Gansu, Guangdong, Hubei and Beijing city.
