China interested in buying food from Belarus, investing in processing industry

06 November 2014

MOGILEV (BelTA) – China is interested in buying food in Belarus and investing in the processing of agricultural products. The statement was made by Ambassador of China to Belarus Cui Qiming during the meeting with Mogilev Oblast Governor Piotr Rudnik on 6 November, BelTA has learned. The Ambassador took part in the 7th international investment forum Mogilev Oblast – Way to Success.

According to the Ambassador, searching for new opportunities to advance Belarus-China cooperation was one of the key tasks of his working visit to Mogilev Oblast. At presence Belarus-China trade is misbalanced, with China selling a lot more to Belarus than buying from Belarus. Therefore, the export of Belarusian food and agricultural products to China may become one of the promising avenues of cooperation.

Cui Qiming was also interested in proposals regarding the possibilities of investing in a number of projects in Mogilev Oblast. The number includes the construction of a sugar refinery near the town of Chausy, the processing of peat deposits in Klichev District, the establishment of a nodal freight airport near Mogilev, and several other projects relating to renewable energy sources. The Ambassador assured Piotr Rudnik that he will visit Beijing soon and all the proposals will be forwarded to representatives of business circles. The Ambassador also said he will put efforts into accelerating the implementation of joint investment projects. “Chinese investors have a great interest in investing in Mogilev Oblast. The region offers the most favorable investment climate and I've managed to make sure of that during the forum,” said Cui Qiming.

The Ambassador accepted the Mogilev Oblast Governor's invitation to attend major international cultural events that will take place in Mogilev Oblast in 2015. Those are the Kupalye festival (Alexandria Gathers Friends) and the international music festival Golden Hit. The Ambassador stressed that he felt like home in Mogilev Oblast although it was his first visit.
