Belarusian scientist gets China’s top award for foreigners

MINSK (BelTA) – Mr Vladimir Kabanov, Director of the B.I. Stepanov Physics Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus (NASB), has been awarded a Friendship Award of the People’s Republic of China, the NASB press service told BelTA.
The Friendship Award is bestowed upon foreign experts for their contribution to the social and economic development of China. China Prime Minister Mr Wen Jiabao conferred the award upon Vladimir Kabanov. Two days before that Vladimir Kabanov received a Qingdao Award for his contribution to the social and economic development of the city of Qindgao from Qingdao Mayor Zhang Xinqi.
In 2011-2012 Vladimir Kabanov initiated the signing of several contracts worth over $3 million with the People’s Republic of China. The contracts envisaged the development of optical and optoelectronic systems for long-range sea imaging, lidar-powered atmospheric probing, gas analysis in industrial areas and the creation of a nuclear spectrometer to control radiation content in water, food and soil.
