Geely car assembly venture ready in Belarus by 2015

MINSK (BelTA) – The investment project to build a car plant together with the Chinese corporation Geely is supposed to be accomplished by 2015, the press service of the Belarusian government told BelTA.

During his working trip to Minsk Oblast on 12 April Prime Minister of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich visited the production site of OAO Borisov Plant Avtogydrousilitel where the cars will be assembled.

The source said there are plans to implement the investment project to assemble 10,000 cars using CKD kits together with the Chinese corporation Geely. A new enterprise able to make up to 60,000 cars per annum will be built in 2012-2015. In 2015-2016 the capacity will be raised up to 120,000 cars.

The Prime Minister took a close look at contractual relations, equipment deliveries, and certification of automobiles.

The head of government also visited OAO Borisovdrev. The employees are not satisfied with low salaries and are gravely concerned about the enterprise’s difficult economic situation. Mikhail Myasnikovich, Minsk Oblast Governor Boris Batura, heads of the Bellesbumprom concern, commercial banks, and other interested persons discussed major issues concerning the development of the enterprise. A new facility to make 60,000 cubic meters of medium density fiberboards will be commissioned. The retooling of the veneer production facility will be financed as well as the construction of a boiler house. Head of the forestry industry concern Bellesbumprom Vladimir Shulga had to hear out a lot of criticism. A step by step schedule to complete all the work and corrected business plans will be presented to the Prime Minister within a week.
