Belarus, China agree to use yuans or rubles in trade transactions

MINSK, 25 March (BelTA) – The National Bank of the Republic of Belarus and the People’s Bank of China signed an agreement under which Belarusian and Chinese companies will be able to use the national currencies to settle trade accounts. This will improve the payment and settlement relations and develop mutually beneficial cooperation between the two nations, BelTA learnt from the information department of the National Bank of Belarus.

The issues of bilateral cooperation between the central banks of Belarus and China were high on the agenda of a meeting between a delegation of the People’s Bank of China led by deputy chairman Su Ning and chairman of the board of the National Bank of Belarus Piotr Prokopovich and other senior officials of the Belarusian central bank.

The sides exchanged opinion on social and economic development of the two countries, the impact of the global financial and economic crisis, the state of the Belarusian and Chinese banking systems, facilitation of bilateral trade, cooperation in other banking areas.
