Belarus wants more high-tech projects with Guangdong Province

MINSK, 23 July (BelTA) – Belarus is interested in executing new joint sci-tech projects with China’s Guangdong Province, Chairman of the State Committee for Science and Technologies of Belarus Igor Voitov said at the opening of the Science and Technology Week of Guangdong Province in Minsk on 23 July, BelTA has learnt.

According to Igor Voitov, Belarus plans to scale up cooperation with the Chinese province in power engineering, automobile manufacturing, medicine and other areas. This will help Belarus boost the export and enhance its competitiveness on the international market.

Igor Voitov noted that the cooperation with Guangdong Province is gaining momentum. Joint educational projects are the most successful. At present about 2,000 Chinese students study at Belarusian universities; over 105 direct agreements have been concluded between the educational establishments of the two states.

In 2009, Belarus implemented $1 million worth of joint projects with China. Over the last two ears, the cooperation with Chinese specialists have been promoted by the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the Healthcare Ministry and the Industry Ministry. “We are interested in deepening and expanding cooperation in agriculture, power engineering, nano and bio-technologies and other fields,” Igor Voitov said.

The Science and Technology Week of Guangdong Province is held in Minsk on 23-27 July. Taking part in the forum are over 160 people, including officials, businessmen, executives and specialists of over 80 leading companies of Guangdong Province.

Chinese R&D centers will present their most advanced technologies and take part in a forum to identify the most promising cooperation avenues. The Chinese delegation will hold business meetings with Belarus’ government officials, education executives, scientists and heads of Belarusian leading companies. The meetings are aimed to give an added impetus to the sci-tech and business cooperation between educational establishments, R&D organizations and enterprises of Belarus and China.

The Science and Technology Week of Guangdong Province is organized by the Committee of Science and Technologies of Belarus, the Polytechnik technological cluster of the Belarusian National Technical University and the Guangdong Province Government.
