Vitebsk Oblast external trade ups 39% for 5 months

12 July 2010

The Vitebsk Oblast external trade with the People’s Republic of China upped 39% for the period of five months of the current year as compared to the similar period of the year before. The statement was voiced by the Head of the Vitebsk Oblast Executive Committee, Aleksandr Kosinets as he met the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the PRC to Belarus, Lu Guisheng on July 10th.

The external trade turnover amounted to $47.3 mln., including exports - $14.7 mln., or 212% as compared to the similar period of the year 2009. The main export item is presented by petrochemical products. The Vitebsk Oblast supplies China with optical instruments, flax fibre, casein and distilled beverages.

In Aleksandr Kosinets’s opinion, the Vitebsk Oblast and the PRC have a great opportunity to develop their economic ties. In many ways it would be promoted by the transition from advance payments to the settlement of accounts by letters of credit. Despite the free economic zone “Vitebsk” provides a great opportunity for foreign investors, the oblast hasn’t had enterprises with Chinese capital yet.

Lu Guisheng expressed his confidence that the two countries’ entrepreneurs would develop their business contacts.
