24 August 2010

MINSK, 24 August (BelTA) – The Belarusian Railways and the Austrian company Far East Land Bridge Ltd. are developing a new logistics scheme to transport Belarusian potash fertilizers to China on the main Trans-Siberian railway, BelTA learned from the Belarusian Railways press service.

The sides are considering the possibility to transport the potash fertilizers in multi-tonnage container via Russia. In August this year, representatives of the Belarusian Railways met with specialists of the company Far East Land Bridge Ltd. to discuss the bilateral cooperation. The Austrian company specializes in container transportations from China and South Korea to Western Europe and back by railway.

At present Belarus transports potash fertilizers to China via the Baltic seaports.

According to experts, the participation in the project will allow Belarus to increase the volume of container transportations by railway.

All in all, in January-July 2010, the Belarusian Railways transported 4.6 million tonnes of chemical and mineral fertilizers, up three times over the same period of 2009.
