13 October 2009

Belarus plans to use Chinese credit resources to buy electrical equipment in 2010, Belarusian Energy Minister Alexander Ozerets told media on 13 October.

“At present the Belarusian delegation is in China for talks about the possibility of using credit resources in 2010 to buy electrical equipment,” said the Energy Minister. He explained that in line with the government program for modernizing the Belarusian power grid and providing electricity supply to new homes it is necessary to upgrade existing substations and build new ones.

All in all, according to Alexander Ozerets quite a large amount of investments is channeled into large-scale power industry projects in Belarus. In 2009 Belarus attracted $410 million in investments, including two Chinese loans. Chinese loans are used in the ongoing projects for the reconstruction of Minsk cogeneration plants No 2 and No 5. The foundation for essential equipment of a new power unit is being laid down at cogeneration plant No 5 already.
