18 September 2008

The Belarusian Energy Ministry intends to sign the agreement on cooperation in peaceful uses of nuclear energy with the China Guangdong Nuclear Power Holding Corporation, Lilia Dulinets, a consultant of the nuclear technologies sector of the Belarusian Energy Ministry, told a press conference in Minsk on September 18.

According to her, the draft agreement has been already prepared by the Belarusian and Chinese sides. The document envisages the cooperation in such avenues as experience exchange and probation of specialists. “I believe that the agreement will be signed and the Chinese experience of the nuclear energy development will be useful for Belarus,” Lilia Dulinets noted.

As for the cooperation with French-German Company AREVA, there is no information about this so far. According to the representative of the Energy Ministry, the Belarusian side did not have new meetings with that company. When these meetings are held, the ministry will inform about their results.

Answering a question about the selection of the site for construction of the future Belarusian nuclear power plant, Lilia Dulinets said that the final choice should be made this year. In the near future the issues regarding the selection of the site will be considered during a regular session of the state commission, the representative of the Belarusian Energy Ministry noted.
