Belarusian Railways, China Corporation sign letter of intent for cooperation

The Belarusian Railways (BR) and China National Electronics Import and Export Corporation signed a letter of intent for cooperation, BelTA learnt from the press service of the Belarusian Railways. The document was signed during a visit of a Chinese delegation to Minsk on October 23-20.

Officials of the China Corporation toured of the BR transportation control centre, communication and data control centre, retarder microprocessor centre at the Minsk-Sortirovochnaya station. The guests got familiar with the design-technical centre of the Belarusian Railways, Baranovichi motive-power depot and Zhlobin car-repair shed.

Under the protocol, Belarusian and Chinese specialists will study the prospects of adjusting freight-car trucks designed for a 1mn km run for the Belarusian railways. The China Corporation will consider a possibility of manufacturing two advanced electric locomotives, freight cars, wheel discs for the Belarusian Railways.

China National Electronics Import and Export Corporation is an integrated foreign trading company engaged in import/export of electronic technology and products and other services.

The Belarusian Railways handles around 75% of Belarus’ freight and more than 50% of passenger transportation. The total length of the BR tracks is 5,500 kilometres. Electrified lines are 874 kilometres long.
